The steam cut chaff process is where hay is treated with steam before it is cut into chaff. In a short period of time the hay is heated to a high temperature and moistened. It is then cut to a specific length (5-10mm) as it passes through a cutter blade. The chaff is then sifted, dried, cooled and bagged. By treating the chaff with steam the complex structures of starches and proteins are unlocked making digestion easier.
